Indian Air Force Day 2026: A Salute to Those Who Guard Our Skies

Today, on Indian Air Force Day, all of India looks up to the sky with gratitude. From Kota to every corner of the country, we salute the men and women of the Indian Air Force, our air warriors, veterans and their families, for their unwavering commitment to the nation.

Why this day matters

Most of us go about our day without thinking about the people who keep it safe. We sleep, work, study and celebrate festivals with our families because someone, somewhere, has chosen to stand guard. The Air Force does this quietly, in all weather and at every hour. Its motto, नभः स्पृशं दीप्तम् — “Touch the sky with glory”, says it all: courage that aims high and serves with honour.

Air Force Day is a reminder that freedom is not free. It is protected every day by people who put the nation before themselves.

The bigger idea: duty above self

The armed forces teach us something every citizen can learn from: duty. A soldier, sailor or air warrior serves without asking what the country will give in return. That sense of duty is also at the heart of our Constitution, which asks each of us to defend the country and render national service when called upon, among our fundamental duties under Article 51A.

As an advocate in Kota, I often see the law as a promise between the citizen and the nation. Those in uniform keep their side of that promise with discipline and sacrifice. The rest of us keep ours by respecting the law, by being honest in our dealings, and by protecting the rights of others as carefully as we protect our own.

What it asks of us

Honouring our air warriors is not only about one day of tributes. It means standing by their families, respecting veterans, and making sure that those who serve are treated with fairness and dignity throughout their lives. A nation that asks so much of its soldiers must give them a fair system of justice in return.

It also asks something of each of us: to bring a little of that same discipline, courage and selflessness into our own lives and work.

On this Indian Air Force Day, let us say thank you, to every air warrior in the sky, every veteran, and every family waiting at home.

Jai Hind.
